On Tuesday 20th May I went to see Guys & Dolls at Banksia Secondary College Theatre. I saw Stephanie and all the Deaf Interpreters. We sat on the right side so we could see Maxine and Nicole interpret, and see the people in the Show. Guys & Dolls had great dancing, singing, good talking and nice music. We enjoyed Guys & Dolls. Maxine and Nicole are very good interpreters. It was fantastic. Every one of the students were great. We had a good time.

The production is the most enjoyable and beneficial thing I have ever been a part of. To experience the thrill, nerves and excitement of an opening night-it is so depressing knowing that for those of us in year 12, we will never experience this again. We know what great times we will be missing out on. All the people who have never been in the production have no idea what great experiences are right in front of them.

I cannot thank both Robert Coates & Megan Sullivan enough, these 2 genius' have turned me from a guy who refused to sing in front of 40 peers, into the character 'Sky Masterson'. They took a huge chance on me, I just hope it paid off.

I cannot express my gratitude enough to everybody in the show, particularly Nathan Wilson, Cameron Stark, Ilaisa Makoni, Tegan Lausberg, Rebecca Warren & Luke Everard: without these people's constant support I would not have lasted, or had the confidence to go through with the show. Above all, I would like to thank Robert Coates, Megan Sullivan & Paul Mercurio who set the fun tone and moulded everybody on stage in their roles beautifully. I hope we proved your judgement justly.

Absolutely brilliant! If I had to use two words to describe Banksia's latest production Guys and Dolls, they would be the two I would use. With a dedicated energetic cast, 40 shining primary school children and an awesome bunch of direction and production teachers ...

... I can't help but feel honoured to have participated in such a success. The feeling of being on stage with 200 or so people watching you is unexplainable, you can't help but smile. The amount of hard work and time the school, parents, students and all involved provided was amazing and I'm sure all would agree that it was worth every bit of it! Any working with Paul Mercurio … well that's another story!

When it comes down to it, memories are all we have and the experience is something to treasure, but how long will we remember? We all like to say forever, and hopefully we all will. We have worked with some of the best in the business including the remarkable Paul Mercurio. For us year 12s this was our last year and for me personally, I almost want to fail year 12 so that I can be in it again. The people who aren't involved don't know what they are missing out on. The school production has changed my life and has opened up new opportunities for me as last year I did a semester of drama with the Victorian Youth Theatre after I was offered a scholarship. It has also created friendships and a kind of closeness that every day school just cannot compare to.

Our school production is full of unknown natural talent and I mean the likes of Ashley Williams, Luke Everard and James Van Langenberg. This year they were on debut as I was last year and proved that they have potential as well.

Guys and Dolls didn't always have happy times, after our final show on Saturday night I was walking backstage and I saw a devistated Tegan, unhappy because it was all over and I'll never forget the compliments she gave me and the emotions that also brought tears to my eyes. Anyone who is even slightly interested in singing, dance and drama should strongly consider joining the school production in the future. It may change your life as it has changed mine.

This year's school production was Guys and Dolls. It was a sensational performance and everyone really enjoyed it. We were really lucky to have the famous Paul Mercurio choreograph it. Most of the ten nights we performed were sold out. I had a fantastic time in the production and so did all the other people involved in it. It was the best thing I ever did and now I won't get nervous as much when I get on stage. All the cast and crew did a really wonderful job and I hope next year's production is as good as Guys and Dolls!

Teachers Responses

This year's school production has been a resounding success. Such activities enable teachers to view their students in a different light and to get to know more about their respective talents. The cast is to be congratulated for both their professionalism and performance on the stage as well as the way they conducted themselves behind the scenes during the performance. It was truly satisfying to watch the performance, to see the students enjoy themselves whilst entertaining & giving such pleasure to others.

Congratulations to all the cast members of Guys & Dolls. You all did a marvellous job and I was so proud of the great talent we have at Banksia Secondary College. The Interpreters on Tuesday were marvellous, they had us all enthralled with their signing. Congratulations to the set designers, the members of Young Australia Broadway Chorus and all the people back stage who worked so hard to put this production on. It was a great show.

How exciting the last couple of weeks have been with the cast of Guys & Dolls and the enthusiastic primary school children. There are so many people who support the production each year without question, and this year's show has been outstanding. What a talented group of show people we have and how they seem to excel with every new challenge, not only on stage but also behind the scenes. These fantastic kids have learned so much more than just singing & dancing, but also how to communicate with each other by working together understanding all the pitfalls of quick changes, makeup, hair and living in each other's pickets. On the up side, they have made what will be life long friendships. To perform in front of hundreds of people over ten sell out shows is a wonderful achievement and one we should all be proud of.

Well done to all involved. Congratulations and thankyou for a most enjoyable night at the theatre.

School performances have a reputation for being boring and ordinary. Not so here at Banksia. For those of you who chose not to see our annual performance-WOW-what a feature you missed. With all the hype of a Broadway Show-the presentation was fantastic, bright, humorous, thoroughly enjoyable with all the entertainment value you could have wished for and more. A show many people saw more than once. The entire cast performed admirably, show after show, every person giving 150%. For the year 12s leaving us what a show to finish on and for the students still with us Guys & Dolls was a show I'm sure you enjoyed being part of. What will next year bring?

Well done to everyone involved. From students involved in scenery, lighting, crews, wardrobe personnel, band members, front of house assistants, staff & parents who gave their spare time to make every aspect of this show the success it was. Congratulations, well done and look out for future shows!
